Game Concept Design Character Design Illustration Interactive Adaptation
For my Children's Illustration class at Seneca, the assignment was to design a "searching game." I saw this as an opportunity to create more than just a game, but a tool for learning and connection between parents and their young children. I chose the familiar, bustling setting of a kitchen as the perfect place for discovery.
My goal was to design a simple and fun searching game for toddlers and preschoolers that could spark conversation and build vocabulary. To make the scene feel warm and authentic, I drew from my own life, illustrating a mother and daughter making gyoza together—a cherished activity I share with my own daughter. This personal narrative formed the heart of the illustration, turning a simple game into a story of family bonding.
I focused on creating an engaging experience for the youngest audience, blending educational goals with fun gameplay. My responsibilities included:
Game Concept Design: Creating the "search-and-find" mechanic.
Character Design & Illustration: Crafting the mother-daughter characters and the detailed kitchen scene.
Interactive Adaptation: I later expanded on this project in my Interactive Illustration class, turning the static image into a digital drag-and-drop game, further enhancing its educational potential.

Outcome & What I Learned
The primary result is "Healthy Hunt," a rich illustration that functions as both a game and a conversation starter. The project's strength was proven when I successfully adapted it into an interactive digital prototype, showing how a single concept can live in both print and digital forms. This project taught me how to design with a clear educational purpose for a preschool audience and reinforced how powerful personal stories can be in creating relatable and heartfelt art.
